Abbott Commissions Custom Bennett Corporate Awards

Abbott, a global leader in health care products, commissioned Bennett Awards to create a new set of custom corporate awards to honor scientific achievement within the company.

These corporate awards were presented to new and promoted members of Abbott’s prestigious Volwiler Society, which recognizes Abbott’s most distinguished scientists and engineers for their scientific excellence and leadership. These awards were also used as “Outstanding Research” awards to honor scientists and teams for their scientific leadership and innovation in their respective fields.

Abbott established the Volwiler Society in 1985 to recognize the company’s most distinguished scientists and engineers. Named for the late Ernest H. Volwiler, Ph.D., an internationally recognized scientist and former Abbott president and chairman of the board, the society encourages professional growth, and is meant to spur, recognize and showcase scientific innovation at Abbott.

A committee of Abbott's scientific leaders elects and promotes members of the society. Candidates are evaluated on their ingenuity, scientific excellence, consistent productivity and performance at Abbott. There are four levels of membership: associate research fellow, research fellow, senior research fellow and distinguished research fellow.

For these prestigious corporate awards, Abbott worked with Bennett Awards to develop a new custom award design. This design combines metal and crystal to create a stunning recognition award. The award design features a metal sculpture in the shape of a trapezoid that is surrounded by clear crystal. A crystal globe is mounted on the top of this crystal and metal sculpture. This entire award sculpture sits atop a black crystal base.

Five different finishes are applied to the metal trapezoid to distinguish different versions (levels) of the award: gold, silver, bronze, copper and pewter. These awards also utilize a two-level engraving scheme. The Volwiler Society and Abbot logos are etched into the front of each metal sculpture, while the recipient information is laser engraved into the surface of the surrounding crystal.
