A Bennett custom award was used for the recently completed Monopoly World Championship, held October 20-22 at Caesars Palace hotel-casino in Las Vegas. Bennett Awards created the custom awards design based on the Monopoly “Tycoon” character that is featured on Monopoly properties. The custom awards design was created at a height of 2 feet, and produced in pewter. The custom award was mounted on a black marble base engraved with the name of the event and winner.
The unique award was presented to the competition winner, Bjorn Halvard, a 19 year old Norwegian student, on October 22, upon culmination of the event. Halvard beat competitors from 41 different countries to capture the championship. In the addition to the Bennett-designed custom award, Halvard received $20,580, the total amount of money in the bank at the start of a standard Monopoly game. The Monopoly World Championship, sponsored by the game’s creator, Hasbro, has been held periodically since 1973 in various cities around the world. The last champion was crowned in 2004 in Tokyo.
