Kaiser Permanente “Mr. Pill” Awards
The Story
Kaiser Permanente wanted to create a distinctive award that would reflect their healthcare mission while incorporating a touch of creativity and personality. The result was “Mr. Pill,” a custom character design that transformed a simple pill shape into a whimsical figure complete with facial features, arms, legs, shoes, a hat, and a doctor’s bag. The award needed to embody both healthcare excellence and the organization’s approachable, human-focused values.
The Design
Bennett Awards worked closely with Kaiser Permanente to bring the “Mr. Pill” concept to life as a three-dimensional character sculpture. The design centered on the pill-shaped figure enhanced with detailed accessories that gave the award a lighthearted yet professional presence. Standing at approximately 7.5 inches tall on a 1.5-inch base, the completed award reached a total height of 9 inches, making it an ideal display piece for offices and workspaces.
The Craftsmanship
The “Mr. Pill” model was originally 3D printed by Bennett Awards to capture the character’s precise proportions and features. From this prototype, resin castings were produced to create the final awards. Each piece was carefully painted in a lustrous gold finish to elevate the playful design into a prestigious recognition piece. The sculptures were then mounted on solid black hardwood bases, providing both contrast and stability while completing the polished presentation.
The Impact
The “Mr. Pill” awards stand out as a memorable symbol of healthcare achievement, instantly recognizable and tied directly to Kaiser Permanente’s mission of care and wellness. The combination of whimsical design and refined craftsmanship creates an award that recipients are proud to display, reinforcing both individual recognition and organizational identity. By transforming a character into a custom sculpture, Bennett Awards helped Kaiser Permanente celebrate excellence in a way that is distinctive, meaningful, and enduring.
