Rousch Yates "Steve Bown Memorial" Awards

$0.01

Roush Yates, a leading designer and builder of racing engines and performance parts for NASCAR cars, recently commissioned a new custom award design from Bennett Awards. Roush Yates is the exclusive supplier of Ford Racing engines for NASCAR’s top series. Roush Yates has won 146 races in 2012, and 11 championships.

Roush Yates commissioned Bennett Awards to create new custom awards honoring an important partner and supplier to their success who passed away in a plane crash following the 2012 Daytona 500. These custom recognition awards were created to honor Steve Bown, the owner of PSI Springs, Inc. PSI Springs designs and manufactures valve springs that used in NASCAR cars. Their springs have held revolutionize the sport, leading to new, much higher levels of performance.

The new custom award design Bennett Awards created for this honor featured an actual PSI intake valve embedded in a cavity of an abstract sculpture. The intake spring is an actual spring that came out of the car Matt Kenseth used to win the 2012 Daytona 500. Normally, the winning car in the Daytona 500 is confiscated immediately after the race and placed in the Daytona 500 museum for a full year. NASCAR made a special exception allowing Roush Yates to remove the spring for the purpose of this trophy. The abstract sculpture is a customized version of an existing Bennett Awards design. The sculpture is silver-plated, to match the valve. It is mounted on a black marble base with customized silver-fill engraving explaining the purpose of the award.
