Bennett Awards created a set of unique custom trophies for “The Friskies”, a new award competition sponsored by Friskies, a leading cat food brand and part of the Nestle Purina PetCare Company, to honor the best Internet cat videos. The purpose of these new recognition awards, in the words of Friskies, was to honor the “art form” that is the cat video, and become the “Oscars” of the cat-video world. Friskies received more than 1,200 video submissions as part of this competition.

Four judges narrowed down the entries to 12 finalists – three videos in a total of four unique categories: 1) the “Catness” category, which honored the essence of cat behavior; 2) the “Catventure” category, focused on cats frolicking indoors; 3) the “Catcom” category, which recognized funny cats; and 4) the “Catch All” category, which was as it name applies. Awards were also created for the best overall Internet cat video, and a Lifetime Achievement Award. The general public then voted on the winners over a three-week period. The winners each received $2,500 and a custom trophy designed by Bennett Awards.

For these custom achievement trophies, called the “Catuettes” by Friskies, Bennett Awards created a new custom award design that featured, as its main component, a sculpture in the shape of the Friskies cat icon. The cat trophy was attached to an integrated circular pedestal with the Friskies logotype embossed in it. These sculptures were cast in pewter, and featured a gold-plated finish. The cat award sculpture was then mounted on a two-tier round black marble base engraved with the award name and category name.

In addition to these custom trophies, Bennett Awards also created two 9’ monumental sculptures in the same shape as the smaller award sculptures. These monumental statues were used to grace the stage of “The Friskies” recognition awards presentation.

“The Friskies” initial award presentation was held November 14 at the SmogShoppe in Los Angeles. It was also streamed live from Friskies’ website and ThePetCollective. Guests wore “Friskies formal” dress code: tuxedos and gowns with cat ears. The award venue was decorated to look like the average cat’s primary domain: the living room. More on the competition can be found at the following site: "The Friskies".
