Twitter Philanthropist Trophy Designed By Bennett Awards
Custom Award Design Process
In January, Team Pulte LLC reached out with a request for a unique custom award on a tight timeline.
Their story came across as exciting and heartfelt. The CEO, Bill Pulte planned to give away a large trophy and $10,000 in cash to a chosen recipient, crowdsourced via nominations and votes from viral tweets. Pulte named this honor the “Twitter Philanthropist of the Year” award. As for the $10,000, the recipient needed to give away the cash to whomever they determined was most deserving.
Team Pulte LLC. did not initially have a set award design idea in mind, which is completely ok with our award design team. They quickly jumpstarted the brainstorming process by describing unique traits about their Twitter philanthropy, and what they were looking for in the award itself.
They went into this project with the hope that one of our designers could come up with a design.
Award Design Brainstorm:
The Pulte Twitter Philanthropy is about helping people around the world on Twitter, through the power of viral tweets.
The meaning is all about helping the everyday person with a hand-up.
A core theme is love and kindness. With that in mind, they suggested a heart as a possible design element.
They intended to give the award to some very famous people, so they would like it to be high-end.
They needed the turnaround time to be within a few weeks, in order to meet their deadline.
They were open to a custom crystal design award, a sculpture award, or any award design that is 3D.
After a conference call between teams, our award design team created three versions of a customized heart with the Twitter bird, for their review. Through further discussions via email, we settled on a 8" wide x 2" deep red translucent heart mounted on black acrylic base with screen printed text.
Award Giveaway and Recipient Details
On January 28th, 2021 Bill Pulte tweeted, “It’s Thursday. You know what that means. Time to help some people!”
According to Zenger News, “More than 150,000 people saw the livestream as word spread and people watched the replay. It unfolded in real time for about half of them.”
“Pulte will part with the trophy. The winner must part with the cash by giving it away.”
The event streamed on Twitter’s Periscope platform. The winner was determined by the result of a public Twitter poll pitting three finalists against each other.
Jimmy Donaldson, “MrBeast” to his millions of YouTube fans, won the award for giving away his wealth nearly as fast as he makes it. Pulte and Donaldson teamed up last year to give away $100,000 to ten people in a single tweet.
Signing off, Donaldson said he would “love to give away a neighborhood” one day to people who don’t have a safe place to live and raise their children. “That would be so much fun,” he says.
Two runners-up survived a single-elimination tournament of Twitter polls:
One In An ARMY, a leaderless group of fans obsessed with the Korean boy band BTS, crowdsourced millions of dollars in donations for a different charity every month/
Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, raised $32 million from his readers to help keep restaurants and other small businesses open during the Covid pandemic.”
