EA Sports
Team Of The Year
The Story
When EA SPORTS FIFA (one of the world's most popular video games) needed to honor their Team of the Year recipients, they faced a unique challenge. How do you create physical recognition for digital excellence? These weren't just any players; they were global soccer legends like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, and Sadio Mané, chosen by millions of FIFA gamers worldwide for their real-world brilliance translated into virtual dominance.
The Design
Bennett Awards created a striking crest sculpture featuring the sculpted TOTY logo, fabricated from aluminum with a lustrous gold finish that captures the prestige of soccer's ultimate honor. The centerpiece sits atop a geometric icosahedron base, a bold, modern form, that reflects the intersection of traditional sport and cutting-edge gaming technology. The powder-coated aluminum base provides dramatic contrast while gold-plated engraving adds personalized elegance.
The Craftsmanship
Each crest was fabricated from aluminum, then bead-blasted, polished, and painted gold to achieve FIFA's iconic branding appearance. The icosahedron bases were machined from aluminum and powder-coated to provide dramatic contrast with the gold crest. Gold-plated laser engraving was applied to each base to personalize the awards with recipient information, ensuring each player's name is prominently featured on their unique recognition piece.
The Impact
These awards bridged two worlds when millions of FIFA gamers worldwide voted to select the “Ultimate XI” from 55 nominees, creating a unique connection between digital gaming and real-world soccer excellence. Recipients like Messi and Mbappé now possess tangible symbols of their virtual dominance in one of the world's most popular video games, with each award serving as a conversation starter about the intersection of traditional sports achievement and modern gaming culture. The physical trophies generate ongoing social media engagement and brand exposure as they sit in the homes of soccer's greatest stars, proving that recognition can successfully span both physical and digital realms while honoring achievement across multiple platforms.
