The Foley Institute
Thomas S. Foley Award for Distinguished Service
The Story
The Foley Institute presents the Thomas S. Foley Award for Distinguished Public Service annually to individuals whose careers reflect exceptional commitment to public service. Named for Thomas S. Foley, the long-serving member of Congress and former Speaker of the House from Washington state, the award recognizes those whose work exemplifies integrity, leadership, and lasting societal impact. The Institute approached Bennett Awards to design a recognition piece that would reflect both the prestige of the award and the significance of the recipients’ contributions to public service.
The Design
The award is inspired by the United States Capitol, symbolizing governance, leadership, and civic responsibility. The aluminum sculpture measures 6 inches by 6 inches and is mounted on a wood base with a black piano finish. The design conveys both gravitas and elegance, reflecting the award’s role in honoring a distinguished career in public service.
The Craftsmanship
Each sculpture is precision-machined from aluminum, with careful attention to the architectural details of the Capitol. The wood base provides a sophisticated foundation, complemented by an engraved plate featuring the organizational seal, recipient name, and year of presentation. The combination of materials ensures a timeless and durable recognition piece.
The Impact
Presented annually, the Thomas S. Foley Award serves as a lasting symbol of public service excellence. Each award celebrates the recipient’s dedication, integrity, and leadership, inspiring future generations of public servants while reinforcing the Foley Institute’s commitment to recognizing outstanding civic contributions.
