Bennett Awards created new custom recognition awards for the 2016 SURFER Awards. The SURFER Awards, now in their 46th year, honor achievements in both surfing and surfing-related filmmaking. They recognize fan-favorite men and women, top performances, and best videos. The awards are sponsored by SURFER, which began as the original surf magazine but now provides information through its website, social media channels, and television programming in addition to their print media.
For these awards, Bennett Awards worked cooperatively with TEN: The Enthusiast Network, the event organizer, to create a new custom award design. The award design was based on a custom sculpture in the shape of an upright surfboard mounted on an integrated base. The awards were cast in bronze. The base and edges of the surfboard were high-polished, and the main surface of the surfboard featured a marbleized blue patina. The SURFER Awards logo was engraved on the surface of the surfboard sculptures.
These unique awards were presented to recipients at a special awards event held December 6, 2016, at the Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. Winners included:
